Employee Spotlight: Spencer Hallin, Senior Applications Engineer

ESPRIT de Corps

A graduate of Ohio’s Miami University, Spencer headed to our Southern California headquarters right out of college.

Senior Applications Engineer Spencer Hallin has been making ESPRIT a more streamlined solution since he joined the team in August 2017.

If you use ESPRIT on a Willemin-Macodel machine, you’ve probably already encountered Spencer’s work. He manages the add-in that supports their 408MT and 508MT series machines. The add-in is a .NET project that uses ESPRIT’s API to automate and simplify many aspects of the programming process and ensure accurate machine simulation. Spencer is especially proud of the work he’s done during the last few months.

“Recently, I went on-site to train a customer on the Willemin-Macodel machines. We ended up programming a part from scratch, posting, and loading on the machine. Without any edits, we were able to run the code collision-free on the first try. It was very gratifying to see the outcome of a solution I had spent months working on.”

The variety of the manufacturing world keeps Spencer interested in his work. “One day I could be working on a heart valve, and the next day I might be developing a specific threading operation on a Swiss machine. By working on such a versatile software, I get exposed to new ideas and information daily.”

A lifelong outdoorsman, Spencer still makes time for regular fishing trips

Spencer grew up in Bozeman, Montana, and the outdoor-oriented lifestyle of Big Sky Country has followed him to California. He plays hockey in a local adult league and seeks out fresh powder every winter for skiing. “However,” he says, “I end up using most of my vacation days on fly fishing trips in Yellowstone.” His next big goal? Sharpening his ocean fishing skills and catching a tuna this spring.
